Hi Kayla, yes it is possible to find a tame fantail, however, it may take time to find the right one from the right place. Pigeons tame very easy (in general), however, each pigeon is an individual and will behave differently, so don't expect to find a pigeon that will act exactly like the one you had before. I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I hope you will be able to adopt another pigeon in need one day since, as you know, pigeons are amazing birds who give so much love to those who love them. :)

i once had a male indian fantail and we had the best bond ever he slept with me he ate out of my hand and he would even sit on my chest and fall asleep, he truly was the best bird ive ever had. but he passed away and it's been very difficult finding another fantail that looks and acts like him. is it possible to find another fantail that acted as he did?

Yes, that's very true. Wearing the same clothes makes it easier for the pigeons to recognise a friend. Sounds like you have a lovely flock and they trust you a lot! :)

Ah, and the family we've gotten from patience and consistency. It also helps to 'look' the same, i.e. same coat and/or hat. Having them fight over your hand/arm (preferred feeding initially) they've gotten used to me 'yelling' at them to quell their 'pecking order' ;) After a couple of handfuls, I reward the group with a 'feed line' (approx 24" long, three or four handfuls seed) and they line up for their daily treat. Once one of the flock has learned to come to 'hand', the others learn and both you and they are hooked!

Hello, thanks for your comment. Making friends with wild pigeons is never cruel. It is so delightful to feed pigeons and have one come close to you or even land on your hands. If you are kind and friendly to the pigeon and feed it nice things like peanuts or sunflower hearts then it will soon trust you and feed happily near you. Happy feeding! :)

My friends and i are inserted in taming a everyday pigeon, but not keeping in a cage as a pet. Thank you for non-loft taming instructions i have found yet! I hope no-one comes saying "It's cruel" and stuff, because it really isn't.
