Happy New Year!
2014 is going to be a fantastic year – I can feel it.
And what better way to spend the beginning of the new year than to take photos of your beloved animals. … Or attempt to, as is the case with me and my lovely pigeons. I don’t think I’ve managed to take a single clear, crisp photo of Elmo and Georgie. The light has either been too dim or they’ve moved or my camera pretends to be something other than a camera when I try to take a photo (I think it secretly wants to be a radio).
I was so hoping to show you some wonderful photos of my darling pigeons, but instead you shall gaze lovingly at the blurry shots of Elmo and Georgie. I know that you know they are wonderful pigeons with big personalities, but I would like to portray this through the medium of photography. I must try harder. And also to cure Georgie of her hatred of flashing lights (always a detriment when taking flash photography). And Elmo is so vain that as soon as he sees the camera he has to move about and dance to it. … I know what you’re thinking, “Excuses, excuses.”
So after all that, here are the first photos of Georgie and Elmo in 2014:
Happy pigeon 2014 to Elmo and sweet Georgie!
Hi. You don’t know me but I found your article regarding hand reared and imprinted pigeons through Google. I decided to ask your advice. I own a ring neck dove at the moment which is only hand tame. But I am considering buying a young black tumbler pigeon in the next few weeks to hand feed and raise so that it is very friendly with people. And will probably be imprinted on me. I am a maniac animal person so it will live out its entire life with me until it dies no question. But do you think on purposely hand raising it to imprint on us will be a bad decision in this circumstance?
Do you enjoy having imprinted pigeons? Or do you wish they were only tame? The idea of having an imprinted pet I have to admit interests me and I would love one. But I also don’t want to ruin it’s life? And possibly have it get depressed if I am unable to hang out with it from time to time through having a life of my own.
Thanks for any help and advice
Tenille Webster
P.S I own a large colony of rats several snakes. Couple dogs. Scorpions and a Dove. So the burden of caring for animals is not new to me and I would rather live in a hovel or on the street than ever re home my animals.
Georgie and Elmo are adorable and I love reading about their adventures. We also have a pet pigeon, Marvin, who my husband rescued as a two week old fledgling. He turned out to be a girl and lays us two beautiful eggs every month. They do make the most wonderful pets.
Thank you, Tamcra!!

Hi Gabrielle, thank you for commenting. Marvin (Marvinitte?
) sounds like a lovely pigeon. How long have you had her?
