Our pigeons love summer. The sunshine, the gentle breeze, the vibrant grass. They love to hang out in the garden doing practically nothing, just enjoying the day without a care in the world. A little bit of preening may be on the schedule, a bit of pottering about to peck at the ground, and then a spot of sunbathing to round things up.
I learn a lot from being with Georgie and Elmo. I slow down and relax, take in the glorious day and enjoy it. It’s a lesson I appreciate.
They’re so sweet when sunbathing. Pigeons behave funny under the hot sun: preening and scratching the heads, stretching the wings. And not only pigeons making this pose. I frequently see chickens sunbathing the same way.
Hello Vla, I agree, pigeons do funny things when sunbathing! I love watching them. I have also seen chickens sunbath in the same way. But chickens also do the wonderful dust bath!
Hey you guys! I’m a big fan of your pigeons! About two months ago I raised a male orphan 5 day old squab and it became imprinted to me; at least I think so since it hates everyone and only loves me!
Sorry for asking such a question over a video’s comments but twitter is very limited in asking you this.
Since I can clearly see that you guys have the two of them free to roam the house without enclosing them in any cage, how do you deal with their poop? Have you “potty” trained them or something? If yes, how did you do it? I would love to know what your solution was to this issue as I want to keep the bird free in the house but I am getting restless by having to pick up his poop all day and all over the house!
Thanks in advance!
hey nikolas,
I am also a Pigeon lover yup i agree they used to do naughty things during sunbath where as i like to spend my free time to spend in watching them….
As i am i use to have pest control By http://www.hygeanatural.com at my home and take care of them just because they were nondetachable part of my life.
Thanks God to have them in my life.
Hi Nikolas, sorry for the late reply. We haven’t potty trained our pigeons. We simply clean up after them when they poop. You can buy bird nappies (search for pigeon diaper on the internet or on facebook) but we know our pigeons would never tolerate wearing them. At night, and when we are not at home, our pigeons stay in a cage so that they don’t make too much mess in the house when we’re not there. So that may be an idea for your pigeon. Or you may want to limit your pigeon’s access to all the rooms. Hope this helps. Have a good day!
I am so glad I got Lovey-Dove his harness and leash. We took our coffee outside the other morning and it was chillier than we anticipated so we had to go for a little bit of a walk around to the other side of the building where the sun was already shining. Lovey-Dove was happy to just sit in my lap while I drank my coffee and watch the wild birds who were busy on the grass.
Hi Cara Louise! Thanks for telling me about Lovey-Dove. Sounds like he’s really taken to being out and about with you.
