Elmo was being so ridiculous yesterday. I’ve never seen him in such a state. He was utterly jealous of Georgie!

I let Georgie incubate the fake eggs for longer than usual to prevent her from laying another set of eggs too soon since she’s had some health problems with the previous pairs of eggs (see: Vet trip and Updates on Georgie and Elmo) so Elmo hasn’t had any real contact with her or seen her for about a month. Yesterday Georgie decided she’d had enough (and frankly, so had I! I wanted my cuddly pigeon back) and left the nest to join me and you should have seen the look on Elmo’s face!!! He was livid. He couldn’t handle all the attention I was giving Georgie.

Now Georgie is my ‘mate’, while my husband is Elmo’s, so it’s only natural for me to reestablish my bond with Georgie. But Elmo wasn’t impressed. Since I’ve been home more often during the daytime Elmo has decided he likes me and has been bonding with me as well. I think, with Georgie out of the picture for a month, Elmo thought he was top bird! :D

So when Georgie started to cuddle with me last night on the sofa Elmo raced over and was visibly shaking with jealousy and anger at the sight of me cuddling Georgie. It was hilarious!! As soon as I looked down at Elmo he’d twitch and coo to invite me to cuddle him, but if I ignored him to cuddle Georgie he’d peck my arm to get my attention.

I’ve never seen him this jealous before. Usually Georgie is jealous of Elmo when I give him attention, so it was funny to see Elmo jealous of her! (see: Jealous Georgie!)

I now have two needy pigeons vying for my attention.

I’ve made it back home from my holiday, safe and sound. Needless to say, Georgie girl is now very happy. Richard took her out of her cage and she perched on his hand while I let her know I was there. I could see her cock her head to one side a bit and stretch out as if to determine that it was really me in front of her! Then as I held her in my hands she started cooing and snuggling into me, I couldn’t put her down; she was too excited in nesting on my lap!

Elmo was very excited too. He ran about cooing and bowing as he does, then he sang to me on the sofa, prancing about my outstretched hand as I tried to stroke him.

Today, as I spend the last free day with them, they would not leave me alone. Elmo and Georgie have been calling to me constantly and I’ve had to give them both attention and cuddles at the same time while keeping them separate so they don’t fight. I guess this means Elmo did miss me after all. :D

Of course Georgie was jealous whenever I gave Elmo any kisses and cuddles (she always makes a bee-line to us when she hears me giving him any attention) and now she’s a bit touchy with me, pecking me every now and then as if to let me know she doesn’t approve of my “cheating”.

I’ve missed my pigeons a lot and am glad to be home with them. Here are the two rascals together, vying for my affections:

Some interesting and very beautiful finds. If I had any natural talent or inclination I would be an artist. I will be eternally jealous of those who can create. (I thought I had already posted these links but I hadn’t, so here there are now.)

Here are some links to artists who create on feathers, with feathers or with eggs:

The other day, when Richard was away for the evening, Elmo finally gave in to his insistent daily demands: his need for human contact and affection overrides his “hatred” of me. So after Richard was gone for an hour and a half Elmo started cooing and shrugging his shoulders, bowing his head repeatedly. So I cannot resist – I must go to him and smother him with kisses and strokes. How often do I get invited over for a cuddle from Elmo? :)

So there I am snuggling up to him, my nose in his head feathers, my fingers stroking his ears (he loves that!!) and Elmo is absolutely loving it. Then all of a sudden Georgie is beside us. She’s got a look of concentration and slight hesitation as she inches herself closer and closer to Elmo and my fingers. Then she pecks – grabs a few of Elmo’s head feathers and pulls. She knows he’s there and is taking advantage of his relaxed and vulnerable position to exact revenge on him for all the times he has chased her away. I have to put George on the floor to stop her from attacking both of us in her jealous rage. Yep, Georgie was jealous of me giving Elmo affection. Funny girl.

Every time that day when I gave Elmo any attention Georgie came over to “see” what was going on. She’d climb onto me and peck me – whether to get my attention or to punish me, I don’t know. Maybe both.

My husband popped over today to see Dora in the aviary at my work and she gave him a very physical welcome – she never did like him! Pidge, Dora’s mate, got all amorous with Richard’s hand and Dora did not like it one bit! So she hopped over and put Richard in his place in a jealous rage.

She’s such a darling!! :)
