We knew something was up when Elmo started to do this:

Where's Elmo?

Elmo trying to go under the sofa

He was being broody but for some reason wasn’t nesting in his beloved cat igloo bed. When I showed him a fake egg Elmo immediately tried to sit on it (still in my hand!!). After placing the egg into his igloo bed Elmo was happy to nest in there. What a silly little boy! :)

I’m sure he’s super jealous of Georgie’s ability to lay eggs. If only he realised that if he didn’t attack Georgie she might let him incubate her infertile eggs. If Elmo ever did decide that he fancied Georgie I would be besides myself with joy! Imagine the two having babies?!! :D

Georgie and her egg

Pigeon people can be so ridiculous sometimes. Well, at least in this household.

I’ve noticed a few silly things we do that have seeped into our normal behaviour. One is that whenever Georgie raises her wings in the air we do the same. Here’s what I wrote about it in 2010:

“…Georgie has an odd behaviour when she’s broody. Occasionally, and quite suddenly, she’ll lift both wings straight up a couple of times. She doesn’t take off or get up for a stretch, she simply raises her wings then settles back. Not sure what that’s about, but everytime she does both Richard and I raise our arms in response. It’s become a little game of ours. We’ve even done it when we’ve had guests over. … I know, we’re weird pigeon people.” (from Georgie eggbound)

Another thing we do is shout “Pigeon!!” whenever we see one on TV (e.g. in an advert or movie). I guess we should develop this into a drinking game. :D

And then there’s The Running Game! Elmo loves to chase things and will run after Richard if he runs away – it’s a fun little game they play sometimes.

On a totally different subject, here’s Georgie girl falling asleep on the sofa. She’s sitting down in a funny position and I managed to take a photo without disturbing her.

Now, many of you have seen the silly things Elmo has taken to his nest. There was a bit of wire, a minicard, feathers (which he’s usually afraid of), and he’s also tucked rings and coins under him if Richard hands them to him (I’ve not been able to capture that on video yet). The other day Richard gave Elmo a thin plastic rod which Elmo thought would be great to take to his nest. It was a bit long and I was afraid Elmo would stumble over it, however, he managed to take it to his nest and place it down before twitching and cooing to Richard with glee. What a sweetheart!

I’ve discovered that Georgie loves Templeton, the soft toy rat. Of course she would love him! What’s not to love? However, a part of me thinks, “Does she love Templeton because Elmo hates him?” Hmmmm. I wonder.

Georgie and Templeton

Georgie is being very loving:

And here’s Elmo showing his true feelings towards Templeton:

More about Elmo and his romance with the lime green plastic cup. As some might have read (in More garden tales), one day when we were in the garden we captured Elmo courting a plastic cup that we use to fill up the bird feeders. Here’s the video again for your amusement:

Then I wrote that I thought maybe he has bad eyesight and has mistaken the cup for a brightly coloured pigeon (in About…).

Well, yesterday Richard brought the cup indoors and sure enough, Elmo started prancing and dancing to it, much to our amusement. Later that evening Richard put the cup in Elmo’s nest and when we had a look to see what Elmo was doing we saw this:

Too funny! :D

I think I’ll be reporting a lot about Elmo and his cup romance since he continuously catches us by surprise with his silly antics.
